World Aquaculture & Fisheries Production

The evolution of global production in the fishing sector is actually surprising, considering that just 50 years ago aquaculture represented a negligible percentage of global animal production and today aquaculture production is greater than fishing production! Extractive Fishing has had stable production since the 1980's, ranging from 80 to 90 million tons, while Aquaculture values (including macroalgae) almost reached 115 million tons in 2018 (FAO, 2020).
