SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability

This activity, like almost all human activities since the industrial revolution, has undergone a marked development process without major environmental concerns or a focus on sustainability. This is a reality that cuts across developed human societies, it is not a characteristic of the sector.

Today the vision is clear, public policies in Europe and in the United Nations (UN) directives for future development, in this as in other human activities, must respect environmental requirements and a harmony between the various factors of social development and human.

In aquaculture in particular, since the beginning of this century, in numerous aspects there has been an effort to follow an effective path of sustainability, through the inclusion of new technologies, new raw materials, renewable energies and more energy efficient technologies, reuse of by-products, systems pollutant reduction, among others. In this sector, the path taken towards sustainability has been long, there are still some steps to go, but like all paths, you can only do so by walking.
